Just 8 miles from sandy beaches, this is an ideal touring base for Dumfries and Galloway, Wigtownshire, and the rest of Scotland's South West Border country. Golf, riding, fishing and sailing are available locally.
 
Galloway Wildlife Conservation Park is a fascinating wildlife park in a lovely setting of mixed woodland. Conservation of threatened and endangered species is the principle focus of this impressive park. Threave Gardens are a 64-acre ornamental garden with interest throughout the year from a large and varied plant collection and landscape features. A Scottish Baronial House at Threave Gardens is open to the public.
 
Edinburgh is 100 miles by car. You can also enjoy day trips to Ireland (fast Seacat or ferry) from Stranraer.
Short breaks are available at Queenshill Lodges.
